Slack with Astro

Get form submissions to the people who can act on them. I build Slack alerts that are easy to scan, routed to the right channel and limited to the details your team needs.

How I set up Slack

A clear summary in the right channel makes follow-up easier. I route sales leads, support requests and partner inquiries to the teams that own them, with separate alerts for integration failures.

I also decide what should not go to Slack. I include only the details needed for follow-up, with a link to the full record where that is the better place for it, because personal data and payment details do not belong in a channel just because it is technically easy to put them there.

How the handoff works

  1. 01

    Submit

    The form posts

  2. 02

    Payload

The fields worth sending, and no more

  3. 03

    Route

    The channel that owns it

    Key handoff

  4. 04

    Message

Scannable, with what to do next

  5. 05

    Verify

A real submission, end to end

Why this is the key handoff

An alert nobody reads is a form that nobody answered. Which channel, which fields and what the message looks like at a glance decide whether a submission gets picked up in ten minutes or at the end of the week. The failure mode is quiet: the alert arrives and nobody acts on it.

What gets connected

  • Form submissions to the right Slack channel

  • Messages formatted for quick scanning

  • Routing by form, product, region or lead type

  • Alerts for failed webhooks or broken downstream integrations

What to watch out for

  1. 01

Too many alerts make important submissions easy to miss

A channel that fires on everything stops being read. Routing by form and by value is what keeps it useful.

  2. 02

Slack is not where a lead should live

A message is a notification, not a record. If the CRM write fails and the Slack message succeeds, the lead exists only in a channel that scrolls.

  3. 03

Keep the Slack webhook URL out of browser code

Posting to Slack from the browser puts the URL where anybody can read it, and anybody who reads it can post to the channel. The webhook URL stays in a server-side integration.
